October Book Club: The Elegance of the Hedgehog
Muriel Barbery's "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" looks to be the favorite. Read away.
I'll post a few discussion starters around October 15. Of course, please feel free to post something to this topic before then; sans spoilers, please.
This should be fun!
Thanks for starting this!
I'm so excited! I'll start reading it on Monday, finishing another book up first! Yay!
Sounds good - I'll see if it's available at my library!
Bought the book yesterday!
Yay, I am so stoked! I am ordering online today :)
Yay! I'll have to wait until I'm recovered to go out and get the book, but I'll await that day very anxiously :)
Oooh, exciting! I'm going to try & snag the last available copy at the library tomorrow, hurray!
Got the book today!
I just started reading, and already love! Should we set a page limit to where people should read to, so no one unintentionally posts a spoiler? I'm thinking around 60 pages by October 15 -- any thoughts?
Hi, ladies!
Can I say ladies? Are there any men reading the Elegance of the Hedgehog with us?
So, when did you start loving Renee? Immediately? I must admit, I cringe when I think of the "Renees" I am often quick to judge only to find a hidden intellect, talent, kindness, etc.
The publisher (Europa editions) has a great reading guide that frames this issue differently:
"One French critic called The Elegance of the Hedgehog “the ultimate celebration of every person’s invisible part.” How common is the feeling that a part of oneself is invisible to or
ignored by others? How much does this “message” contribute to
the book’s popularity? Why is it sometimes difficult to show people what we really are and to have them appreciate us for it?"
What are your thoughts?
Hey Amanda Kate- lets start a new thread for the discussion of the book. We also need to start a thread todecide what our November book will be. Thanks!
