Spring Wreaths

I think these yarn wreaths are just about some of the cheerfullest spring decor items I’ve ever seen. I like how they are both cozy and sweetly fresh, just like season itself. The most seasonal decorating I ever do is bringing in lilacs instead of dahlias, but I’ve always loved the idea of lightening the interior of my home when things warm up. Do you swap out decorative items–throw pillows, blankets and the like? And have you seen your first lilacs? I bought my first bouquet yesterday, and they sit–already a little droopy–in the morning light of the breakfast table.

  • BethP: I saw my first lilacs this morning on the walk to the subway!!! It feels like all of Brooklyn is flowering today.1 year ago

  • Katie: So cute and springy! I haven’t seen lilacs yet, but the cherry trees are in full bloom…so lovely.1 year ago

  • Beth, We went away for the weekend and when we came back on Sunday evening, every tree that had been holding out on us had burst into bloom. It happens so suddenly, and so spectacularly!1 year ago

  • Hilary: YES, just got my first bouquet of lilacs, too. It’s officially spring when the lilacs come to call…I find that splitting the branch at the bottom & changing the water daily keeps them fresher longer. (-:1 year ago

  • Ruth@GraceLaced: If I wasn’t 40 weeks pregnant, I’d be attempting to make one of these beauties myself. So lovely–thanks for sharing, Sara! Did you ever see my baby nursery? http://www.gracelaced.com/2011/04/13/nursery-reveal-cincos-owl-room/ That last wreath would be perfectly at home in that room!1 year ago

  • Julie: So cute – I want to make one!

I change artwork, throw pillows, curtains and table linens a couple times each year. It’s not so good in an apartment with limited storage options, but it makes me so happy!1 year ago

  • Hilary, Thank you for the tips! I feel like I need a machete to cut through these branches, but I’ll try putting my back into it a bit more. :)

Ruth, That nursery is amazing! I’m speechless at its gorgeousness.

Julie, You are my personal domestic goddess. So impressed by all you do with your home.1 year ago

  • Amanda: Such a cute roundup! I have to make spring happen in my house rather than outside right now because the blooms aren’t happening yet….it snowed last week. But hopefully, we’ll be able to see our first flowers pretty soon!1 year ago

  • Pomona: The wreaths are a great idea. I do have some lilac blooming, but having been brought up with the superstition that it is bad luck to bring lilac into the house (I have no idea why!), I will have to content myself with gazing at it out of the window!

  • Cadi: I do swap out decorative items a couple of times a year, including pillow covers and throw blankets in the living room and bedding in our bedrooms. I also change out the decorative items on our mantel seasonally (and sometimes more often during the holiday season).

Lilacs and cherry trees and dogwood trees are exploding all over the wine country right now – it’s a beautiful time to be living here!1 year ago

  • Designing Diva: I need to make one of those wreaths to add to my collection of seasonal door-brighteners! So fresh and cute. I change out pillows, add cotton slipcovers in shabby chic style, and switch our master bedroom’s comforter/pillows to a lighter, more summery theme. I also like to occasionally switch artwork and accessories, not to mention furniture! My husband is, thankfully, always amused to come home to some of my “projects!”
Last year, I bought a beautiful mosaic bistro set and we made a point to eat dinner out on our front porch almost every night last summer! Always good to remind us of those Parisian memories…..1 year ago

  • Amy C: Sigh. I live on the windiest of hills, and so heaven forbid I put a wreath up, I find it 8 neighbors down and in a mud puddle the next day! But a girl can dream, right?1 year ago

  • Chelsea Talks Smack: oh my gosh, this is so clever- lOVE IT.1 year ago
