9 Things I’m Happy About in November

This month, it’s all about banyuls in the bubble bath, swooning over Jane Eyre and the creepsters in the attic, listening to French pop, and getting ready for the first long holiday weekend of the season. What are you happy about this month?

  • Tiffany: What’s your favorite French pop? Have you ever listened to MC Solaar? He’s my fave!

Oh, and I’m happy about cooler temps (although you wouldn’t tell that from today!), the new Harry Potter movie and butternut squash!!1 year ago

  • Tiffany, Right now I’m listening to Serge Gainsbourg and old Brigitte Bardot songs, but I will have to check out MC Solaar. Thanks for the tip!1 year ago

  • Sasha: I had to look Banyuls up! But it seems like it’s like Port, no? I love Port so must be good–thanks for adding to my wine knowledge! Oh, and I love MC Solaar as well!1 year ago

  • Dayna: I’m rereading Jane Eyre right now, too! Details are hazy since I apparently gave it a pretty quick skim in high school, so it really feels deliciously new.

French pop and banyuls sounds like great ideas for the Thanksgiving dinner party I’m hosting. Thanks for the inspiration!1 year ago

  • amy: I love this list. And I love bubble baths always, but November especially tends to need some extra-bubbly help. And rereading Jane Eyre! Yes please! In search of something sweet and harmless to read I’ve been rereading Anne of Green Gables, in part inspired by your writing here about rereading children’s classics…1 year ago

  • Sarah F: Quilting. I’ve been quilting up a storm the last few weeks, and when I’m not quilting, I am knitting. I’ve been watching a lot of period series (like the Tudors), devising crafts for the winter, thinking about pumpkin pie and cookies and just relishing the feel of fall as the weather changes.

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books- and I checked out the 1996 movie the other day to watch. Also looking forward to the new movie adaptation in March!1 year ago

  • Sasha, I sent Sebastian to the wine store for port and he came back with banyuls. Apparently, the wine guy said given our “price range” (low!) we should give it a try. It’s port-like, thick, ruby red and delicious.

Dayna, It’s amazing how much I’m getting out if it this time too. It feels deliciously new to me, too, and also deliciously romantic. Somehow the subtleties between Mr. Rochester and Jane were lost on a 19-year-old.

Amy, I have Anne of the Island on my bedside table. So, so comforting!

Sarah F., Your house sounds like a bastion of cozy creativity! It’s so, so fun to plan your winter crafts and desserts!1 year ago

  • Sara Rose: Pumpkin baked goods, roasted brussels sprouts, early bedtimes, decorating for the holidays!1 year ago

  • Sara Rose: And knitting. And apple cider doughnuts.1 year ago

  • Kanesha: I’ve been having kir royales while taking bubble baths and listening to grown up music in Spanish (no offense Justin Roberts – but I need my own music too).

Last weekend – hubby and I stayed in PJs most of the days (and the kids too) and we were baking and making aprons and advent calendars. I do like being a homebody at this time of year.1 year ago

  • Rebecca: The start of Christmas baking… and roasted butternut squash!
And I remind myself that soon enough, the days will start getting longer…
