  • Faith: My grandma made me a princess costume when I was a little girl that I just loved to pieces. Especially my crown. But I’m also pretty fond of my costume this year, a 19th-century dress being sewn for me by a friend out of some gorgeous brocade fabric so I can dress as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (and fulfill a lifelong fantasty to get to wear one of those dresses at least once in my life).1 year ago

  • Tess: The last year I was allowed to trick-or-treat (I think I was about 13 or 14) I made this amazing Maleficent costume and wowed the entire neighborhood.

I want to resurrect this idea some year soon and frighten all the little kiddies who come to my door!1 year ago

  • Tracey: As a kid, I dreamed of growing up and being a superhero. I idolized Batgirl, because she worked in a library and fought bad guys at the same time. Plus, we both had red hair. In third grade, my mom put together an awesome Batgirl costume, sewing the bat logo onto the front of a black leotard. I wore black tights, black thigh-high boots (because every young girl in the seventies had a pair), and a black cape lined with blue silk. I had the bat ears too. I won third place in the school contest. To date, I’ve never had a better costume.1 year ago

  • regina: ooooh, this looks like a fun book. Potions and Dorothy sparkly shoes? Love that!1 year ago

  • Pam P.: When I first met my husband, he wanted to take me to a huge Halloween party. I had to come up with a costume quick. I decided to be a demented tooth fairy. I had a black dress, a jar full of fake teeth and bloody pliers. The best part was that I bought a fake gold tooth for 99 cents. At the time of purchase, the store manager told me that I couldn’t return it. I almost burst into laughter. Who returns a 99 cent gold tooth?1 year ago

  • Shannon: My friend Carrie Ann (http://thelittlebig.wordpress.com/) dressed herself as a Japanese housewife last year, and her baby was a piece of sushi! They made the most adorable costumed pair, so creative and homemade! Here’s a link to her post about it: http://thelittlebig.wordpress.com/2010/10/04/diy-baby-costume-inspiration/1 year ago

  • Amy: My favorite halloween costume ever has got to be the year I went as a bloody bride. I’d bought the wedding dress 3 years earlier & had worn some version of it every year, and it was done….so, a little corn syrup & red food coloring, a little zombie make-up, and voila! A creepy girl who had her throat slit on her wedding night.

I love Halloween so much! (I even made my husband get married on Halloween – although NOT in costume.)

This looks like an awesome book!1 year ago

  • Katie @ cakes, tea and dreams: Hmmm. My favorite childhood costume was undoubtedly the pink, sparkly homemade princess dress I wore three years in a row (complete with tiara and wand, of course). My favorite teen/adult costume? Rebel-fighter Princess Leia (tall black boots, a vest, a gun, the cinnamon-roll hair) when I was 18.1 year ago

  • Xani: I think my favorite ever costume (and there have been many) was the voodoo doll costumes my sister and I wore for my friend’s voodoo themed halloween party. Dressed all in black, with jute rope tied around us and spanish moss coming out of our cuffs and stuck in our ratty, teased hair. we made over sized pins that stuck out of our hair and clothes, and whited out our faces, used black grease paint to black our eyes and draw stitches over our mouths. spooky! Also, last year a bunch of us went as the cast of Clue, each murdered by a different weapon– that was pretty great, too!1 year ago

  • RH: When I was little my brother and I went as Wilbur and Charlotte (respectively) from Charlotte’s Web. My mom handmade both our costumes, and they were incredible.1 year ago

  • Jen: My most favorite childhood costume was not my own (I always had the vinyl clothing with the plastic mask that I would cut my tongue on in the little mouth hole)…

When I was in grade school my mom worked as the librarian in our school library. One year she dressed up as Ragedy Ann in a real, homemade costume, complete with the red yarn hair. It was so amazing to see my mom dressed as a life-sized doll, and it’s the only time I remember her dressing up for Halloween. I will never forget that year.

Once a co-worker of mine (back in the 90′s) dressed as “Mr. Wilson”, the neighbor of Tim The Toolman Taylor. She wore the fishing had and had a large chunk of fencing to cover her face from the nose down, so all you could see were her eyes, just like on the show. Back then, it was the most creative costume I’d ever seen! (and who the heck wants to carry around a chunk of fence in front of their face all night?!)1 year ago

  • Sara Rose: I have three favorite costumes. 1. I was Marie Antoinette in a HUGE period dress, wig, and with a fan FAR before it was a movie with the repulsive Kirsten Dunst. I was 19. Think full chalky makeup and all. Powdered wig. Dress with a bottom hoop the size of a compact car. YES. 2. When I was a 13 year old, I got talked into putting together a Miss Teen USA get up and I did it and there was a woman who BELIEVED I WAS FOR REAL Miss Teen USA. I even let her take a picture with me. 3. I’m really loving everything about the costume I’m doing this year. I’m going to be Luna Lovegoode and Nolan is Harry Potter. YES. FOR REAL. Long, white blonde wig, robes, etc, oh yeah. Also excited for Eva’s monarch butterfly and Owen’s dracula costumes this year.

**I think I may like Halloween a lot.**1 year ago

  • JoAnna: I was Glinda the Good Witch as a toddler. I wore a pink crown and a wand and taped a picture of a pink bubble (like she rode away in) to my belly. Best. Costume. Ever.1 year ago

  • Emily: I never dressed up too crazy in the past, but the one year I did as an adult, it was awesome. I was Alice, with a vintage blue nighty-turned-dress, a cute vintage cream apron, black and white striped stockings, black wedge MaryJanes and a blonde wig.1 year ago

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday: When I was 5 years old, my sister went as a cowgirl and I went as an Indian. It was pretty sweet!1 year ago

  • Kristina S: Oooh I looove Halloween! I was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle when I was little and got so angry when everyone asked if I was a lizard. Come on, people, I have a shell!1 year ago

  • janet: My favourite Hallowe’en costume was dressing up as Nancy Drew. My friends who worked with kids knew who I was!1 year ago

  • Tiffany: I’d have to say Wonder Woman when I was about five.1 year ago

  • Jenny K: I’ve got to say it’s the old standby witch costume. Over the years it’s served me well and taken on many forms! You can adapt the basic witch to fit any mood or fashion trend!1 year ago

  • jj: SMURFS! Not a childhood costume, but last year. I was Smurfette, and a couple of friends went as Grampa Smurf and the philosophical smurf (I forget his name, the one with a quill pen). With bright blue leggings, gloves, long-sleeve tshirts, and paint on the face, plus those diaper-looking hats made out of a plastic tablecloth and some staples, it was a DIY success!1 year ago

  • KW: I just saw that book at the bookstore last night! I think my favorite costume that I’ve ever done was a “punk rock witch”. My hat was pleather, faux velvet and had chains on it, my cape was faux velvet and I used safety pins to make a kind of “stitched” pattern all over it, and I had striped stockings and bright, loud eye makeup. I may have to do that again this year!1 year ago

  • sydney85: My first Halloween in the USA I dressed as Supergirl. It was so much fun and still twenty years later I still dress up to hand out candy. It is my favorite holiday.

    masperle@austin.rr.com1 year ago

  • Katie: My favorite Halloween costume so far was when I re-made my circa 1994 red sequined prom dress into a 2008 devil with a red dress on costume. I got the cheap sparkly devil horns at a dollar store along with a cheap plastic pitchfork. My favorite parts about this costume: 1) I realized my parents must have been permissive if they let me out of the house in that dress as a teenager. 2) I still fit *into* that dress (although it was a bit more snug).

My second favorite costume (so far) was my fortune teller/palm reader costume last year. It was a blast to read people’s fortunes at the party! And my best friend loves to laugh that my whole costume came from her closet and jewelry chest.1 year ago

  • Christy: My favorite costume was a few years ago when my husband, three year old daughter and myself dressed up as pirates. My Mom made the costumes so they were all similar and matching.1 year ago

  • Rebecka Rubbens: A few years ago my boyfriend and I dressed up as characters from one of my favorite movies, The Royal Tenenbaums. I was Margot and he was Richie. We went all out for these costumes with a homemade wooden finger and one very time consuming handmade hawk. It’s was so much fun making and wearing these costumes :) 1 year ago

  • Ann: I love any good book about Halloween! My best costume ever was the first one I ever picked out by myself. I was probably about 3 – and it was a pink elephant. This was back in the day where children’s costumes were really just a vinyl colored sheet with a plastic mask. So basically I was a pink garbage bag with a small elephant mask. I love that there was a costume sold that is a figure of speech!1 year ago

  • Roxy: When I was 12 years old I decided that I was old enough to start making my own costumes. That year I was a witch. But instead of just a black dress and hat, I wound up making a dark purple dress with a black lacy over dress with sleeves that fanned out. Was quite the undertaking but luckily my dad is good with a sewing machine and helped a bunch :) 1 year ago

  • Tricia A: Making costumes for the kids is the best! This year Frankenstein and Bride of and last year ‘Lil Vamp and Vampiress : )1 year ago

  • Heidi: When I was two, my father dressed me as a beer can. No joke. I had on a white shirt and blue pants. He painted my face red, white & blue and made me a huge paper hat which he covered with Pabst Blue Ribbon wrapping paper. I don’t remember the costume except from photos, but it makes me wonder about two things: Where did he get beer wrapping paper and WHY would you dress a two-year-old as a beer can, especially when you don’t drink beer?!!1 year ago

  • Julie: I was a greek goddess for halloween years ago, i loved that costume. It was gorgeous. I used white and purple satin, I felt so pretty and had so much fun that halloween.1 year ago

  • Starlene: ooh Halloween has always been my favorite! (Probably because my birthday is October 29th). Probably my favorite costume was Little Dead Riding Hood. I made a little red hooded cape and wore a cute skirt with a crinoline under and carried a basket as my purse. I bought the wound make-up and made it look like the big bad wolf had ripped my throat open! Hilarious considering I can’t even watch a scary movie without covering my eyes. But it was a blast!!1 year ago

  • D'Rae: I love halloween! (not to metnion it is also my birthday). We always made our own costumes (most of the time) growing up. One year I went as Jem from Jem and the Holgrams1 year ago

  • Serita: Yayyyy Alicia! Awesometastic!

    And fave costume?

Nieces this year + their dad + uncle=

Monk, Key & Wench + a monkeywenches’ uncle.

All it takes is a robe/sash/bald cap, tinfoil/cardboard, a dad in a barmaids’ dress with a beer stein and a plain ol’ uncle.1 year ago

  • Catherine: I am making up my own super hero costume this year, and i will be going as WonderBreadWoman – i found this amazing Blue vintage dress with puffed out merengue-looking sleeves that are white with colored polka dots, exactly like the wonder bread plastic packaging! So i’ve added a superhero emblem to the front that is in the shape of a slice of sandwich bread with a big W on it (out of felt) and will wear yellow dish gloves and a yellow wig (borrowed from last year’s Morton Salt Girl costume – also a success!) I am hoping i can convince my husband to let me put together a “Jif” peanut butter canister outfit for him to accompany me with :D *love halloween!*1 year ago

  • Jess Watson: I love Halloween so much. My favorite halloween costume for me was when I was younger I dressed as a sparkle one year-I work a sparkley jumpsuit with a sparkle top hat. It was silly and fun.1 year ago

  • Sarah: A friend of mine came up with one of the simplest and most creative costumes I’ve seen. He dressed in black-rimmed glasses, a white button-down shirt, and black dress pants. The top of the shirt was unbuttoned far enough to reveal a blue Superman t-shirt underneath.1 year ago

  • Bethany: When I was a little kid, I always was really sick during Halloween. It got so bad that every Halloween, I would spend the night in the ER or at home in an ice bath. It got to the point that my mom stopped buying and making costumes for me. The last Halloween costume I really remember having was a blue satin Princess Jasmine costume my sister sewed. She put the early 90′s version of bronzer on my cheeks, lined my eyes with black kohl, and took an adult morticia wig and created a long flowing black ponytail out of it.1 year ago

  • Melissa Rose: My favorite costume I ever had was when I was 6 years old. I wanted to be Belle from “Beauty and the Beast.” My mom was 9 months pregnant with my brother. She sewed me a yellow ball gown that was prettier than Belle’s. She took gold fabric paint and did little detailing around the edges. Then on October 30th my baby brother was born. Despite giving birth the day before at 7 A.M. on October 31st my mom got up and got me into my dress, did my hair, my makeup, and put my jewelry on me. All so I could look great for the school costume parade. I didn’t appreciate it as much that day as I do now looking back. It is still my favorite costume my mom ever made me and that includes the time I wanted to be a circle (crazy kid).1 year ago

  • Nicole: My mom made a devil costume when I was 6 or 7, and it was really beautiful,a s strange as that may sound! She painted a sweatshirt with glittery flames and I wore sparkly horns and a tail. I am a natural redhead and at the time had long red curls, so it worked together very well.1 year ago

  • Bree: This year’s costumes of my hubby and I are my favorite. I found an old leisure suit pattern in my stash and another dress pattern from the 70′s, so we making those and wearing swings and voila! 70′s swingers!1 year ago

  • Jess: My best year was my Care Bear year. I was Cheer Bear (the pink one with the rainbow) and had this gigantic stuffed head and pink jumpsuit. I know the head must have been a pain for my mom to make, but they couldn’t convince me to keep it on. Even now, all these years later, that’s the outfit my friend’s remember.1 year ago

  • Cristina: My most favorite (and the easiest) costume I’ve ever had to create was Rosie the Riveter about two years ago. Blue work shirt, rolled up blue jeans with white Keds, a red bandana over my hair and scarlet lipstick and nails. I stuck a wrench and screwdriver in my back pocket and had an oil rag in the other, and off I went to work that day! Easy-peasy and super cute!1 year ago

  • Kelly: My sweet grandmother sewed a bonnet for me, and I dressed as Laura Ingalls Wilder for halloween when I was eight. I won a costume contest at a children’s halloween party that a nearby sorority held. Such fun!1 year ago

  • Jenipurr: My very favorite Halloween costume is one from childhood. The elementary school had storybook dress-up day right around Halloween. So my older sister got an empty refrigerator box and we cut out windows and doors and decorated it and put the flaps up at the top to make a roof, and she went as the Little House on the Prairie (yes, she did win a prize for that one).1 year ago

  • Carmen Taggart: My two favorite costumes were a Princess Costume that was made from gauzy blue fabric and a Wand that my Dad made for me at work, that was the best bit ~ I was sure it held magic powers; and the other were matching Clown costumes with my brother ~ it is still one of my favorite pictures of he and I together ~ he thought that because he had a frown face painted on his face he had to frown, poor kid it took us hours to figure out why he was so sad!! LOL I love Halloween!1 year ago

  • Karen: When I was about 6 or 7 I was a fisherman. I remember the little fishing pole that I made from a stick, string and some construction paper fish!1 year ago

  • Carly: Two years ago I was Katy Perry in her watermelon outfit (http://checkered-vans.com/style/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/watermelon.jpg). Last year I was Lady Gaga in this sparkly number (http://publicschoolintelligentsia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/lady-gaga-on-american-idol.jpg). I’m trying to keep with the homemade-pop-musician theme I’ve got going, but my current crush is Gary Numan circa 1980. That’s not weird, right? :) (http://www.newwavephotos.com/GaryNuman/03494GaryNuman.jpg)1 year ago

  • Ashley: I have to admit I love the Christmas season far more than the Halloween season. So naturally at the age of 12…I went as Santa Claus.1 year ago

  • Jackie: I have two favorites: the first is the handmade pumpkin costume that my aunt made for my cousin and then passed on to me, complete with the stem “beret”. The second was a plastic, almost smock-like, My Little Pony costume that had a My Little Pony scene on the belly belly area and it came with a horse face, plastic mask with holes cut out for the eyes, nose and mouth — I haven’t seen those kind of costumes since I was little.1 year ago

  • Megan Rich: I have three favorite costumes:

One of my good friends was going to meet another one of my very tall (7ft!) good friend for the first time on Halloween a few years ago. Knowing he is usually the tallest in any group, she thought she would make him feel more comfortable by being taller. She built stilts and we quickly ‘sewed’ a beard out of yarn and collected up other items to dress her. She was a friendly 8ft giant when meeting him and walked about the neighborhoood with the other trick-or-treaters on stilts!

Another one was when my husband and I dressed in all blue and wore name tags with Jean and Gene on them. A pair of blue jeans. Haha. Cheesy, I know, but a fun puzzle for others to figure out.

The last was when I was about 10, my mom and I made a Rice Crispies Box costume, taking time to paint the box exactly as it appears on the normal box. It was a hit in the neighborhood! Everyone wanted to know who was my favorite– Snap, Crackle, or Pop? :) Being a midwesterner, it was always Pop. :) 1 year ago

  • Rachel: My mom always made our costumes, they were never store bought. In fourth grade I dressed as a Wint-o-Green Lifesaver candy. I helped my mom cut out two giant donut shapes out of white paper (one for the front and back) and lots of green circles for the mint flecks. In its final form the costume was wonderful. All my friends and teachers loved it, as did I. Ever since I’ve made all my costumes and haven’t had to buy one yet!1 year ago

  • Ashley at Bosssanders.com: Last year, my daughter was an Oompa Loompa. We LOVED it. And, our baby was a Hershey bar :)

    Here’s pics: http://www.bosssanders.com/2009/11/01/happy-halloween/

Then again, one day I tried to put her in curlers but things got out of control and I’m pretty sure she could’ve passed as a Richard Sims mini me.1 year ago

  • K of www.itsafullnest.com: We are Halloween junkies over here and have been preparing since mid-September.
My favorite Halloween party (yes, off topic) was the 80s party we threw a few years ago. Those poofy pastel dresses were awesome.
My favorite costume was made by my good friends. She came as a lollipop and her husband came as a big tongue (yes, it was a grown-up party).
My mother-in-law just helped my daughter make a space aged costume, for this year, out of duck tape. It’s so sharp!1 year ago

  • Jessica F: My favorite costume ever was the bunny outfit I wore as a toddler. It isn’t so much as I remember it, but more that I (and everyone else who has worn it) look so cute. Plus the photos from my halloween were taken when there was a huge blizzard. A 2 year old in a white bunny costume surrounded by huge piles of snow is rather amusing…1 year ago

  • Mary LIz: How fun to read everyone’s memories!! My favorite was a snake-charmer costume my Mom made one fall when I was about ten years old, actually for my younger brother…he had a turban and a robe, one arm(which was actually stuffed) wrapped around a basket… and his actual arm protruded through the basket with a painted sock over the hand which was a convincing snake! My little brother was quite the actor and amused the folks at our school carnival all afternoon. My sister and I were matching set of black mice.1 year ago

  • molifer: My favorite Halloween costume was Pippi Longstocking. My mom made the cutest blue dress, miss-matched socks, and even a little coat for my monkey! I LOVED having wire in my braids, sticking out to the sides and sprayed bright orange.1 year ago

  • lisa strawberry: I loved being Max Fisher from Rushmore last year, but I think this year’s costume is the best, especially since I’m doing it with my sister. We are Jane Austen era Zombies (a la Pride and Prejudice and Zombies)! FUN FUN FUN! Tea cups and blood, awwww yeah! I LOVE Halloween!1 year ago

  • Jen: When I was 7, my parents actually ORDERED a Wonder Woman costume from a catalog (before then we’d had DIY outfits or hand-me-downs). I got to wear it with my red cowboy boots and my mom made me a crown out of yellow construction paper and we colored stars on it. She even put my hair in hot rollers so I would be dressed up! I seriously felt like a princess who could fly and fight bad guys. Isn’t that what we all want?1 year ago

  • Stephanie J: My most favorite costume was dressing up as Melanie Daniels from Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds”. Complete with scary crows, uncoifed hair and bloody peck marks!1 year ago

  • Antonia: Favorite costume ever: Rosie the Riveter complete with “We can do it!” sign and pin curl. My family hosts a huge Halloween party every year (seriously, like 300 people huge.) I was a close contestant for first place- second only to my parents who took first as the h1n1 virus.1 year ago

  • Emily Brummer: Two friends and I were not feeling particularly creative one year during college, and so still had come up with no costumes like, the day of. One of them suggested we dress up like one another. I went as my friend Stacy, she went as our friend Sarah, and Sarah went as me. We borrowed one another’s clothes and bought wigs. Essentially we were walking down the street in completely normal everyday clothes, but with these horrible wigs on. It was tons of fun to “act” like our character and our other friends thought it was hilarious. What started out to be a relatively uninspired idea turned out to be so much fun (and cheap)!1 year ago

  • Truc: I don’t know if it’s kosher to mention a costume that was not my own, but once a friend wore only a gold Speedo and gold bathing cap, then painted his entire body gold and went as an Oscar. I thought that set the bar for commitment to a costume. lol.1 year ago

  • thehoopiestfrood: My favourite costume has to be when I dressed as a Christmas present as a child. I’m not really sure why I demanded this, but my mum dutifully helped make the costume out of a giant cardboard box covered in wrapping paper. I had a giant bow on my head and the box was so big just my legs and hands stuck out of it!1 year ago

  • Gina @cakeandcordial: My favourite costume that I ever made was not for myself, but my exboyfriend. He was a really tall guy, and we bought one of those muscle suits for him. I then salvaged through thrift stores for bright yellow shorts, tank tops and bandanas and painted HOGAN and HULKAMANIA in bright red on them. I even bought one of those wigs with the bald top and long blonde sides and trimmed it into a “bob”. The hardest part of the endeavor was applying the blonde handlebar moustache with the stage hair and glue. It was amazing and he won second prize. Everyone at the party kept screaming HULKAMANIA all night!

Also, congrats to Alicia on her book! Very exciting!1 year ago

  • Sarah F: In the third grade, my best friend and I wanted to trick-or-treat together, but my mother said no. Her mom had made her angel’s wings and a halo to wear with a white dress so she could be an angel, and she was kind enough to make one for me, too. When my mom heard that (two hours before trick-or-treating on Halloween), she decided it would be alright if I wore my ivory lace-covered white dress and go trick or treating as an angel with my best friend. It was such fun! My mom would have taken me to one or two houses on our block and a couple of friend’s houses, but Christy’s mom took us all over town. I came home with a huge bag full of candy, a big smile, and droopy angel wings!1 year ago

  • Kevan Christine: Believe it or not, my favorite Halloween costume was the one I wore on my first Halloween when I was nine months old! I was a roly poly red ant complete with black tights and antenna! I, of course, can only remember wearing the costume through the hundreds of snapshots that my parents took that day. But, 26 years later it still stands out for me. Plus, the fact that my mother held onto it means that my future child will be able to wear it on their first Halloween.

The bug tradition shall continue!1 year ago

  • Steffie: My mother used to sew a lot. She took a bunch of wire hangars from the cleaners and bent them up just right. Then she make these gorgeous, HUGE butterfly wings out of silvery black material with large sparkly purple pattern spots. I was six and got some amazing feedback at the school carnival. I was sooo proud to say my mom made it!

My roommate and I are working on some power armor a la Warhammer 40k for this year. He’s going to be a space marine; I’m a sister of battle. We’re behind though, so it may be next year.1 year ago

  • Karol: in 2006, i was britney spears dropping her baby:

  • Robin: One year I was a 50′s housewife zombie. I found this great 50′s style red with white polka dots dress in a bargain bin, tattered it up and tossed some blood on it. To complete the ensemble I I wore some heels, fishnets and carried a feather duster and a martini glass–filled with blood red jello so it would last the night :) 1 year ago

  • notblueatall: My favorite costume was when I was Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas! My husband dressed as Jack! It was the first time we’d dressed as a couple and had a ton of people over to our tiny one bedroom apartment. The dress part was made by a local costume shop and looked fab! The make-up I did myself and that was new to me but super fun. The best part of it was just having so many people in our place and how much fun we had.1 year ago

  • Anne: When I was on the cusp of being too old to trick-or-treat (around 12) I was Paul Revere. My grandmother had a beautiful long velvet black coat and under it, I wore my mother’s high-neck white lace blouse. And my tri-corn hat was my father’s fedora safety-pinned into place. In the midwest, Halloween is often cold and rainy, so I was cosy and comfortable. As an adult, my favorite costume has been Mother Nature while in college. I’ not one for doing tarty-Halloween (French maid, Pirate wench) but I didn’t mind if all the cute boys wanted to ‘fool with Mother Nature’1 year ago

  • Christina: OMG I just love that fuzzy bat! I think bats are one of the best symbols of halloween and yet very few craft books have a good bat in it! Now I must have that book! Pick me!1 year ago

  • Sasha: I’m not sure I have a fav costume. . . I used to love the bee costume my grandmother made me when I was a child. I’m sure I was other things though now that I’ve forgotten. I do recall I was once “The Bride” in yellow tracksuit and sword after the whole “Kill Bill” explosion (that was fun in that everyone knew who you were and you got to see other characters from the movie). I think my most creative was when I was laid off 5 days before Halloween 4 years ago I went to a party wearing a “pink” slip! But the last couple of years I haven’t been anything at all and I think I am in need some inspiration!1 year ago

  • Carrie Anne / Little Big: Aw, thanks, Shannon!

I loved Isobel’s sushi costume. It was seriously the funnest costume ever. And I totally want to wear a kimono every day now just for the sleeve pockets. Badass.1 year ago

  • Abbey: My favorite costume was when I was dressed as a ’50s sock hop girl. It didn’t work out very well, though. With the pattern on my poodle skirt, people thought I was trying to go for Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. It was a fun costume, however, and now, I can look back on the whole ordeal and laugh.1 year ago

  • Michelle: The best Halloween costume was my little girl as a newborn: I carried her in a sling and she had on a teeny-tiny pumpkin hat. She looked good enough to eat; it has to be my best Halloween memory ever.1 year ago

  • lisa: My favorite toy when I was little was one of those little princess dolls that turned into a cupcake. I told my mom that was what I wanted to be (the princess) but she made me a bad-ass cupcake costume instead, complete with an upside-down lampshade “wrapper” and a felt cherry hat. It was so not what I asked for, but I was completely in love with it anyway!1 year ago

  • wendy: I still have faint memories of when I was 4 or 5, and my dad made me a papier mache pumpkin costume. It was pretty adorable, but the best part, looking back now, was that, once on… there was no exit strategy. So, eventually, after I’d sugar buzzed myself silly, I think my dad ended up slowly sawing me out of it. good times.1 year ago

  • Leah: When we were little we lived in Southern California. My absolute fav costume was from that time. I was probably 5, and my Mom made me the BEST tooth-fairy costume.
