Five Senses Friday

image via NYTimes
tasting :: very, very good spicy guacamole at Rosa Mexicano followed by a chocolate chip cookie at City Bakery (and a major blog celeb sighting — Grace Bonney!)
hearing :: the latest super upbeat podcast from Indie Soup Runner
smelling :: the perfume that’s rocking my world and makes me feel put together and glamorous, even with bedhead, Euphoria
seeing :: bubbles blowing in the street outside the local toy store
feeling :: dog-tired and ready to spend the weekend resting up, hopefully with a new book. any recommendations?
Here’s wishing you a relaxing spring weekend!

Charone: Is the guacamole at Rosa Mexicano really that good? We were there several months back, and we didn’t think it could possibly be worth fourteen dollars. Were we wrong?1 year ago
Kate: I’m reading Annie Dillard’s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek and I think it’s the perfect antidote for an overactive/overwrought brain. Love the 5-senses Friday idea!1 year ago
Jackie: I just checked out The Happiness Project from the library and am quickly falling in love with it!1 year ago
Jen: I happened upon a book recently that I’d never heard of but ended up really loving. I whipped right through it, too; couldn’t put it down. Even if you’re restored after your weekend, add this one to your reading list!

Stephanie: I wore Euphoria for years! My mother doubtfully gave it to me on Christmas morning when I was about 23, and we both loved it. Now I’m converted to Annick Goutal, but when I pass someone wearing Euphoria in the street – or my first “real” perfume, Red Jeans – it’s a sucker-punch of nostalgia.1 year ago
Stephanie, I’m a huge annick goutal fan, too. I love Gardenia Passion, I just wish it had more lasting power!1 year ago
Charone, We asked them to make it really spicy and salty and the avocados were just so perfectly ripe and delicious. In fact, guac aside, the avocados themselves were just some of the most flavorful I’ve ever had. So yes — it really was that good!1 year ago
Ellen: Recommendation on a book for any weekend: “Keeping the House” by Ellen Baker. (No, not me.) Very quick read and good story line. Hope you give it a try!
(Annick Goutal scents rock! Just wish I could afford to have them around all the time. I have a bottle of Eau de Charlotte that I just love-do agree though that it just doesn’t last long enough.1 year ago
Ginger: I love Peter Mayle (of Year in Provence fame… which, if you haven’t read is a real treat, as are all of his tales), but I just happened across a fictional novel of his, Chasing Cezanne at the library last week. It’s a bit of a guilty mystery novel, but not as predictable, as his writing is always so fresh, so accessible, and so full of the details that make him Peter Mayle. I’m really enjoying it!1 year ago
