POP Correspondent: Operation Santa’s Workshop

Needless to say, I am making the lion’s share of our Christmas gifts this year. Except for those cases in which making things costs more than buying things, at which point I give up.
Here are some of the ideas I’m kicking around:
- Flavored vodka (like cardamom or pineapple) distributed in lovely flasks, more lovely flasks, or lovely bottles, with a label made by moi.
- Homemade, transfat-free nutella. Which sounds so delicious, you could present it by the fistful and no one would care.
- Agate slice* magnets, or pushpins, or pendants, tucked into a little velvet pouch
- A stack of felt rounds, for storing china, tied with a satin bow. Scratch that: better off buying.
- A six-back of homemade pizza dough balls.
We started talking about what everyone is making for the holidays in the forum, so what have you got up your crafty sleeve? –Katy
*By the way, have you seen these crystal lamps? Regardless of their supposed powers—mystical or complete mumbo jumbo—I’ve never seen anything so glamorous. Reminds me of the ice cave scene in Superman.

Lisa (dinner party): Homemade nutella! Genius. And I love the pizza dough idea too.
At our house, we are making grainy mustard for holiday gifts.2 years ago
Alison: Wow, I love that crystal lamp too. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really go with my apt style-identity, but I really love the mumbo-jumbo part of it. It helps us align our higher selves with what we want in life? Manifests our wishes? I really want it!2 years ago
Katy: Lisa: that is my favorite kind of mustard. what’s your recipe?
Alison: I wish i could stick to one apt-style identity. mine ends up being kind of a baroque minimalist mish mash. what’s yours?2 years ago
emily: just today did the holiday spirit start to kick in. i’m definitely making foodcentric presents. thinking of pickling some things, making some jam, some ‘bake mixes’ (cookies, etc), and straight baking some stuff for presents. if my wallet starts looking happier, infused booze is the other idea.

Evon T.: Wow I’ve never had pineapple vodka before but it sounds so good! Also, the pizza dough idea is so good that I’m gonna make some for myself. That lamp is beautiful and unique, but I see that it’s outta stock. At first I wanted to make teacup candles for my lady friends, but since time seems to be flying, by I think I’m going to just get some really cute stocking stuffers. I found this body spray that I love. It’s called “Cotton Candy” and only costs a couple bucks. The fragrance is perfect for that night when a girl wants to just take a shower or bath and lounge all evening in her pajamas. Also, I’m really feeling the Christmas spirit, ladies! I’m so glad it finally kicked in! XOXO.2 years ago
Lisa (dinner party): Hey Katy! The mustard is very simple white wine, mustard seeds and powder, and some spices. I’ll be posting it on my blog next week.2 years ago
Alison: Katy, I think my apt style-identity definitely falls under the mishmash category too–but it’s kind of a Victorian, junk store, Anthropologie-wanna-be vibe. For presents, I’m taking a leaf out of Sarah’s book and embroidering some canvas bags and tea towels, though I’m thinking my bro-in-law would like the infused vodka better!
Merry Christmas!2 years ago
Sarah Jane: I’m making cute crochet-ed berets for my sister and my mom. I lined them with fleece to make them warmer and patched fleece hearts inside.
For my brother, I made a homemade laptop cover out old sweatshirts. I’m in the process of scribbling the lyrics to one of his favorite songs inside on the liner.2 years ago
geek+nerd: Thanks to this post I made pizza dough for my brothers this year. They each got two balls of white dough and two balls of wheat. I attached a recipe card to the packages explaining how to make the dough, and three of our favorite pizzas. I think it was a hit! Thanks for the idea!2 years ago
