A Pink Bathroom

Of all the projects I undertook this summer, my three favorite endeavors were the quick strawberry jam, the wrap skirt I finished sewing with my mom, and my new pink bathroom. I’ve mentioned a few times that I had a thing for Vogue when I was a younger girl. In one issue, I remember a very glamorous older woman extolling the virtues of a blush bathroom. Paint your bathroom pink, she advised, and you’ll never regret it. Impressions shaped in your formative years can be hard to shake.

I have your typical rental apartment: standard issue cabinets, zero architectural detail, and a teeny tiny bathroom. But now what was probably my least favorite room in the house has turned into my favorite. A haven of unabashed femininity, it’s impossible to feel anything short of just fabulous in a bathroom the shade of a blushing bride (the actual color name). Exit the bathroom, of course, and all bets are off. But for those moments, when you’re putting your hair in velcro rollers for a big night out, brushing your teeth, or running a bath, you remember that you’re a girl, and that it can be an awful lot of fun to be one.
Okay, obviously the words to this song are absurd (”how lovely to be a woman and have one job to do: to pick out a boy and train him”) but let’s enjoy how utterly magnetic Miss Ann-Margret is and how cute she is shimmying into her sweater.

Sara Rose: I’ve had several pink bathrooms. Even if I cannot paint it pink, pink accesories or blush lightbulbs just make the world a much better place. I once had a purple bathroom and the results everyday were hideous.51 weeks ago
ruth @ GraceLaced: Oh My goodness your bathroom is sooo dreamy! Congrats! I wonder if the pink walls reflect a certain pink glow on your skin when you look in the mirror and that’s why you feel “just fabulous?”51 weeks ago

Adrienne: Your pink bathroom is much nicer than my pink bathroom. However, mine came like this! (sorry for the terrible lighting) http://www.flickr.com/photos/hungrybruno/3790695830/51 weeks ago
love, gidget: I love your bathroom!!! Bye Bye Birdie is a classic and Ann-Margret is ridiculously adorable in it!51 weeks ago
Cordelia: That bathroom looks insanely girly…and adorable! Bravo to your fiance for being open to such feminine decor (assuming he had any sort of say in the situation of course).51 weeks ago
Julia (Color Me Green): my old apartment had ugly pink tiles. nothing cheery about them since i couldn’t figure out how to create a cohesive look around them. i’m not the biggest fan of pink and i dont think my boyfriend would like a pink bathroom. i hope your guy likes yours!51 weeks ago
EB: I kind of took this to extremes in my last apartment. I turned the entire thing into what was dubbed “The Pink Palace” by my friends. Pink silk curtains, couch cushions, rugs….. all accented by red furniture. It was certainly girlie… if not bordering on bordello.51 weeks ago
ann: So cute! You should share more pictures of your little home

Sara Rose, I couldn’t agree more. I might make the pink bathroom a non-negotiable moving forward.
Ruth, the walls definitely impart a pink glow. Your complexion looks so dreamy.
Adrienne! Could your bathroom be any cuter?? I love the black dot mats. Oh man, someday I’ll have a bathroom this cute, I just know it.
Cordelia, The fiance went to sleep one night and woke up with this. I think he figured after shooting a movie in our apartment, he could stand a pink bathroom. Plus, the pin-ups make it go down easy, you know?
EB, The PInk Palace with a bordello theme — I love it! How could you do anything but prance around with a cocktail in your hand?
Ann, You’re not missing anything — the bathroom is definitely the highlight of my little home.

Shandell's: The women are perfect for your pink haven. I have lately been drawn to pin ups. A day when women always looked girly.50 weeks ago
Elisha Lynn: I love this song! I performed this for a voice class when I was in middle school. I totally froze on stage and forgot all of the words and sat on stage for 3 minutes awkwardly smiling, haha!50 weeks ago
Kelly: So pretty! I’m always trying to walk the delicate balance between girling up the house and scaring off my boyfriend! Truth be told, you’re really tempting me to go a bit more girlish in our bathroom as well…50 weeks ago
sebastian: I love the pink bathroom!!!
Fortunately I have a fiancee who understands kitsch. The pink is super retro cool and cheery to boot.
We did, however, have a long discussion about whether the bedroom would be pink. Well, maybe that story will have to wait for another post.

Christine H.: I am not usually supportive of the color pink, but in a bathroom? Yes, please! I found a few pink tiles hidden behind the linen closet in my bathroom and it made me really sad to think about the fantastic 1950’s pink bathroom it probably once was and the super lame maroon & earth tone rock tile place it is now. I think it might happier with a few pin-ups hanging on the walls.
