Thought for May

orange-tulips

May is the heart of spring. It’s the perfect time to set sail on a journey into the second half of your life, a quest to rebuild the architecture of your days, or an exploration of what helps your prana flow and your stress go. Take advantage of the energy of the season to come fully alive, letting the seeds of awakening take root and committing to the promise of a colorful blossoming of your most authentic, creative, and connected self. Happy trails! –Kripalu newsletter

I love the idea of rebuilding the architecture of our days, especially if the current structure doesn’t support what we need most right now. What do your days need more of? What pleasure or goodness are you going to build into the architecture of your days in May? I’m putting in free yoga classes in the comfort of my living room, French Fridays, and more frequent trips to the library books. What about you?

  • The Dishwasher: more walks by the lake, flowers in vases and herbs in pots. and a little less inspirational but still needed: keeping on top of the housework.

thanks for always making us examine ourselves, Sarah. Your blog is like free therapy!2 years ago

  • Shandell's: Nest, getting my hands full of dirt, long walks with my dogs, great conversation with friends new and old. Most of all being more grateful than ever.

  • hahaha. now where’s my free therapy? :)

being grateful, being present…those are good ones.2 years ago

  • Julia: getting back into my weekly habits of farmers market shopping trips and baking bread so that i can feel like my cooking arsenal is prepared.2 years ago

  • Amy C: As summer rolls in I find myself waking up earlier, simply to shuffle out to the front porch to sit on the swing. I especially love chillier mornings, when I can sit wrapped in a comforter, watching the birds and bunnies hop about.
I also find that my days become more structured by the weather – on a rainy day I light candles and listen to some Simon and Garfunkel while making tea. On fresh sunny days, I find myself in the garden, hands full of dirt — or romping with the dog.2 years ago

  • oooh, amy. you make me wish i had a porch swing. and a porch.2 years ago

  • B: In April, I seem to have stopped getting up earlier to write in the mornings. I’ve been doing it since January, but somehow I missed a couple of days and it became harder to start again. So, I’m rebuilding that routine. Thanks for the inspiration!2 years ago

  • EB: Lovely thought, as always. I’m putting music back in my life. I’m putting spring fruit and veggies in there too. I’m taking time to read…. for fun! And (resolution style) I’m learning to appreciate my friends for exactly who they are at this moment. Whatever quirks they may have. Up with quirks!2 years ago

  • Sara Rose: -Quiet time in the mornings with my mug of coffee . . . sans laptop.
    -More coffee dates with girlfriends
-Watching the sunrise or sunset on my little porch
    -Herbs in pots
    -Deciding my summer reading list
-Herbs in pots, tilling my plot for tomatoes and peppers, spreading grass seed
-Maybe I’ll finally conquer my fear of making bread?
-More long story times with Eva in my big, comfy bed2 years ago

  • Cordelia: Finishing my undergraduate college career in two weeks. That’s it.

Also, please tell us more about French Fridays. Thank you.2 years ago

  • Erin: Hopefully May will bring about a job change for me! And into those new days I’ll be able to find some inspiration to write and be creative more. Cross your fingers for me!2 years ago

  • megan: FRENCH FRIDAYS!
i want em. but they were so expensive, especially when ‘french’ meant ‘shopping’! ;) 2 years ago

  • Margaret: French Fridays! What a great idea! So great that both me and a friend of mine had the same idea for a New Year’s resolution, and we’ve been meeting for our half-hour pretty regularly since February, with a couple other less regular comers, to speak French at a coffee shop nearby. It’s definitely not a cafe, but I wish it were. My friend is going to Paris for the first time next week, in fact, and I’ve gotten to go over all my old notes to refresh my memory to give her recommendations! It was great!

Feeding people graciously and lovingly is one of life’s simplest pleasures: a most basic way of making life better for someone, at least for awhile.
