December Mixtape: Christmas Cocktails

If I confessed to not really being in the Christmas spirit this year, would you hold it against me? Perhaps with the economy the way it is (broke), some of you are feeling the same way. In times like this, the only way to perk up my spirits is with a little funkified carol action, as well as the Mariah Carey rendition of “All I Want For Christmas Is You“–a song so good, one of my friends listens to it year round, every morning, on her way to work. So my prescription to myself to get holiday is downloading this playlist and enjoying a bit of eggnog. Refill as necessary.

DD: Great mix! I have been listening to the Love Actually soundtrack on repeat as well as Otis Redding’s “White Christmas”. Lordy, they’re good.3 years ago
Sarah: Doh! I forgot to put Otis on this! I could kick myself! And you’re the third person to mention Love Actually to me in three days—and now I really want to watch it!3 years ago
EB: You gotta add Merry Christmas from The Waitresses!3 years ago
Sarah: EB, Is that the same as “Christmas Wrapping” (“you forgot cranberries, too?”), cause if so, you’re in luck–it’s #11 on the second page. If not, then this is clearly a tune I need to know.3 years ago
geek+nerd: Sigh…I just love your mixes

Joy: Sarah, I have just posted about how I am not feeling very festive either – it must be a universal thing! I can’t see your mix-list as my work computer won’t display it (bah humbug work computer!) but I hope you have the Pogues on there. Oh and Nat King Cole’s “Oh Holy Night” which gave me a glimmer of spirit when I listened to it on the way to work this morning.
Yes, you must watch Love Actually – they have it on loop on TV over here over Christmas. The bit with Emma Thompson listening to the amazing Joni Mitchell always makes me cry.
Merry Christmas!3 years ago
Sarah: geek, i’m so glad you said that, because i was just thinking yesterday, “you know, sarah, it’s kind of random to have playlists on your blog,” but i have so much fun doing it, i can’t stop myself. so glad you love them!
joy, does it make me a malcontent if i find it comforting that other people aren’t in the holiday spirit, either? but i’ll keep working the music angle and see if i snap to it.3 years ago
radish: Funny, I actually love that Mariah Carey song to — it’s so happy. Merry Christmas!3 years ago
love, gidget: I love seeing peoples playlists! I am a big fan of the jackson five christmas. And it really isn’t the christmas season until i hear the Boney M christmas album. I have noticed a lot of people are not really in the holiday mood this year. I ‘m lucky cause i have been in the holiday spirit since Dec.1. i guess i am just a dork. The holiday music also puts me into the spirit of things.3 years ago
joy: Good call, you have 2 days of festive music listening to get you in the mood. What about Chris Rea’s driving home for Christmas? I think it might push me over the edge (in a good way). I’m also going to see the annual Christmas pantomime tonight. If that doesn’t work i’m calling in the three ghosts.3 years ago
Sarah: you crack me up, joy. going to go listen to that chris rea song now — i don’t think i’ve ever heard it.3 years ago
Sarah: update: i don’t know what’s so funny about this, it just is!3 years ago
Joy: Ha ha. I’ve never actually seen the video before. He couldn’t look less interested in Christmas if he tried! And he’s going to overheat if he keeps his trenchcoat on in the car…3 years ago
Anne: What a great post! I just love seeing other people’s playlists!

Gina: Every year my sister and I listen for 2 “Christmas” songs on the radio: Wham’s Last Christmas and…MC’s All I Want for Christmas! Whoever hears one of them first calls the other one and cranks up the radio. It used to get us in the mood for the holidays, but now, since we usually hear it the early part of November, it just makes us laugh.

Thanks for making me smile as I think about it! Glad I have the same taste at one of the “cool kids”!
