I couldn't sleep last night. I had that little kid feeling, which I get entirely too often, of not wanting the day to be over yet, of not wanting to miss anything. So I did what I often do when the sheep aren't lolling me into dreamland and trolled etsy. This
vintage Betty Crocker recipe box made me smile in the dark, early morning hours, in part because of the rainbow-colored tabs, but also because of what those tabs say: "Walk-About Parties," "Fresh Air Favorites," "The In-Betweeners." Makes you long for simpler times, doesn't it?

Hey -- Glad to learn that you do something more fun when you can't sleep. Can't say that I've scanned vintage recipe books at three in the morning, but I have been known to prowl around...writing e-mails to other night owls, reading or journaling, or dreaming up something new to try.
It's a lot more fun to just get up than toss around and worry about being tired in the morning.
In fact, sometimes that creative twist in the wee hours has often spilled over in the waking hours the next day!

I LOVE old cookbooks - I practically collect them - and I was lucky enough to inherit about two dozen from an old friend who was moving. It's so true about the nostalgia value, not to mention the occasional bizzare recipe (more Roasted Opposum Stew anyone?). This makes me want to go look through all mine again...

Anne, So true! Some of the recipes can sound downright gross -- I could never wrap my head around jello salads with meat, for instance. :)
