Oh, I LOVE today's post. Apple Cider!
Tonight, I will be celebrating my birthday by watching the Bedouin Soundclash show here in Calgary, AB. Tomorrow I will mark the end of summer (and the beginning of my "late-20's") by chopping off my down-to-the-waist locks for a new Fall look. I'm thinking something that will look cute under a beret :)

Sarah, I've never had an apple cider donut, but I'm actually hoping I get to try one this weekend after I do #1.
Franny, Happy late 20's! There's nothing like a dramatic haircut to make a girl feel fabulous.

First on our list this weekend is pumpkin carving. Apple cider has been enjoyed by my kids and me for a few weeks now - we have a tendency to really enjoy this time of the year!
Plaid - love it! Blankets, scarves, skirts, jackets - love, love, love plaid!

This time of year is totally the best. As you can see, I can't shut up about it. ;)

Oooh Sarah--I made a rustic apple tart last night for company, and included golden raisins soaked in rum in the filling--it was so good, and smelled of Fall. Actually, I thought of you the whole meal, as I was making a beef and stout pie in my dutch oven--I hope to post about it eventually. Happy Fall weekend to you!

WEll sadly, the fall weekends here have been so mind numbingly cold and drizzly that all my plans for us to go to the pumpkin patch/hay maze/hay ride Gerrity's Farms outside of town have been thwarted. Curse you, global warming! Thus, we had to buy our pumpkins from the Farmer's Market this year (not a terrible alternative, mind you, but I wanted to take the toddler for a fun autumnal midwestern afternoon).
This weekend we will be carving and painting said pumpkins, continuing on our quest for decor for our mini Halloween movie party (Vampire themed!!!), make our menu for it, etc.
We will also be delving into the delicious task, provided it isn't still raining at least two inches a day, of the final lawn mowing/raking/winterizing.
I do believe I will surprise the husband and child tomorrow by running out to get some homemade apple cider donuts from the local baker and serving them up with some steaming coffee.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon we are hosting a small dinner for some friends of ours, one couple is returning to Vermillion after visiting their family in Sri Lanka. The other- my dear friend Jess's husband just finished police academy, so we are also celebrating his return. Sooo- lamb roast, arugula salad, roasted apples, and probably butternut squash for dinner.
Wow- I just reread all that- it's quite alot, when secretly I just kind of want to stay in bed with a big, fat book. Ah well.

Fall is my favorite season. Those leaves are so beautiful! I will have to find some place near LA with pretty leaves to go walk through!

I am so thankful to be living in New England this time of year! Tomorrow, I'm taking a new look at my familiar city and heading out on foot for a haunted tour. Perhaps I'll return home to sip some hot cider...

These days Fall weekends are spent cooking with friends, visiting family and taking walks and crunching through the leaves. One of the best things to do in this weather is to turn on the oven and get cookin'!
Where does one get a cider doughnut?? :)
