Breakfast...And the Little Things
I took a break from blogging, and funny enough, that made me realize the error of my ways. When life gets tough, what I need, maybe more than ever, is to appreciate the little things.
Like getting up in the morning. I'm naturally a sleepyhead, but I do love the romanticism of the early day. Thoreau called it the heroic hour; the idea that I might accomplish great feats in the understated early hours coupled with the soft, slanty light is almost enough to make me want to jump up out of the warm sheets.
Almost. These brightly-hued jam and honey pots might give the extra incentive. Wouldn't they be lovely on a white kitchen table? Maybe right next to this book.
This book is a conversation in pictures between two friends. The photographs linger on the beautifully quotidian details of getting up and carrying on. I can think of few things as encouraging as that.
And with that, I'm back. But you know, I'm not sure I would have been eager to get back in this space had it not been for all your sweet emails and comments (and mail!). There really is something to this online community, isn't there? Again, thank you so much.

I've been on a 40's, 50's, 60's bender between the show Mad Men, the movie Married Life and the book Best of Everything. Your vintage aesthetic was the only thing missing!
So glad you're back, Sarah. Hope your hiatus was replenishing.

Miranda, I am LOVING Mad Men, of course, and that book The Best of Everything is the bomb! (On a related note, I recently finished Peyton Place -- so trashy, so fun.) I'm glad to be back too, and am feeling totally raring to go!

So glad you're back, Sarah. Still a loyal reader/watcher/gobbler of your output...
(The "watcher" part refers to your video blogs--I don't mean to come across as creepy...Don't worry, I live in a different country!)

I'm so very glad you're back. I'm a farely new subscriber, but always adored getting to know you by your wonderful, heartfelt writing. I was actually quite worried. Seemed like "it" was something serious. I pray that your health is ok. Thanks for coming back home.

Suzy, I knew what you meant! :)
Evon, Welcome! Sorry to worry you -- my health is fine, thank heavens. There is a lot of change in my universe right now, but I'm trying to roll with it rather than swim upstream. It helps to focus on all the good stuff, which is what I love about this space and the people who come here. :)

So glad to hear your cheery voice. I'm very glad you're posting again, but please stop posting about things that I will want to purchase. That would be greeeeaaat. Thanks.

I cannot! It makes me happy to look at pretty things! (btw, I have recently rediscovered the library. A perfect -- and FREE -- way to indulge in things like this book.)

This is my first visit to your blog but I'm glad that you are back. I too took a very long blogging break. I needed it but my life feels calmer and richer now that I am blogging again. And the jam & honey jars...so sweet.

Selena, I couldn't agree with you more. I have never given myself an official break from the blog (though I have guiltily stayed away for extended periods of time), and you know what? I feel so inspired and creatively charged now -- it's awesome! Anyway, so you glad you found POP and I hope this is the first of many visits.

Yay! you are back and you posted a pick of dreamy little odds and ends in my fave colors! I deeply desire those two pots to add to my pink and green kitchen!
So glad you are back dearest. Sometimes a little break is all we need to be reminded of the things we love to do. :) That's the way I feel about cupcakes. The time in which I am sleeping and not eating them is enough of a reminder of how much I love them. ;-}

I'm so happy you are back. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your busy life to share this space with us. It's such a sweet spot. I love it here. Thanks again.

Sara Rose, you are funny. :) yes, i think a break was just what i needed to feel inpsired again.
LuLu, that is SUCH a sweet thing to say. this is a sweet spot for me, too, so i'm glad we can all enjoy at least a little corner of fun together. :)

Sarah - I've sort of turned into a stalker of your site over the past weeks...I was seriously worried, as the appearance of the site truly was unlike your happily organized artistry for quite a bit there...sort of like a home-bound puppy when it's owner has gone on vacation. "When is she coming back? When??" Glad you are back - at last. :-)

Ha, Sarah. I know, it was a mess! It was so horrible, I could barely look at it. But I made it through and the site looks fine again. Sorry to worry you, and I'm glad we're all back here.
