Sebastian's Steak

pink of perfection

When Sebastian was first courting me, it was a cross-country affair that could well have turned cold with the fall. But I knew this suitor meant business when he flew to St. Paul, Minnesota with a backpack and a bottle of champagne, eager to see the bucolic campus paths where I rode my bike, the sunny coffee shop I read in each afternoon, the restaurant where I served brik and met a mentor, and most importantly, the friends who were my daily bread and butter.

I threw a dinner party to bring everyone together and attempted to quell my anxiety with shopping, chopping, and martinis. I wanted my friends to like Sebastian, needed them to echo my instinct that he was worth moving to New York for, that he might well be The Guy.

Sebastian made this steak for dinner, and he did it with his signature mastery, grace, and ease. We served it forth with an artichoke torta I still think about and a summer tomato salad. Jenny took the first bite. Jenny's my best friend, and she has a particular knack for hitting the nail on the head.

"This steak is fucking awesome," she said, mouth full. She might as well have said, "Your boyfriend is fucking awesome," which she did say, later and in private, of course. And in two weeks I moved to New York, and two years later the instinct (which you should always honor) still holds true, and Sebastian and I eat this steak nearly every Sunday.

A big thanks to Gregor for shooting this episode for us and to Amanda and Hopper for being such eager eaters!

Huzzah! Love it.

I'll have to pass my recipe for jamaican jerk pork and grilled pineapple. YUM.

Big fan of Sarah. I think she comes off very comfortable in front of the camera and her cute personality saves a lot of the otherwise mediocre topics, camerawork and editing.

Still as a lover of all foods, this is one of the sites I frequently visit along with foodtv.com, simplyrecipes.com and danispies.com

Keep up the good work!

P.S. Sarah, you said you loved secrets. By the looks of your man's personality, Sebastian may share a pretty big one with you soon (hint: is he into musicals starring Liza Minelli at all? or maybe want to dress like her). I joke, I joke! I keed, I keed!

Actually Cabaret is one of my favorites. :)

Dude you rock! Took a shot to the chin like a man. Keep up the good work!

Hi Sarah! Was directed to your page awhile back by your sister's review in Jane. I'm now a fan of you both. I've just started a Toronto based event planning business/blog and I linked to you in my first entry! Hope that's okay ;) Cheers!

how romantic! i especially loved when sebastian asked for a kiss. you two are an adorable couple (the meat doesn't look bad, either.)

Yay for couple's cooking. Of course, Sebastian makes a man-style meal that looks fantastic, I can't wait to try!

ps--Also want to expound on the EXCEPTIONAL NON-MEDIOCRE nature of this blog, its topics and its camera work :)

You've gone and made me hungry. AGAIN!

As always, love the blog. The camerawork is always right on and the editing is creative and VERY non-mediocre. (I'm saying this as a fan, fellow videographer and pro-blogger).

Plus, who knew Sebastian would be so darned adorable?

Keep up the good work you guys!!

P.S. I just wish you were able to post more often, I adore P.O.P so.

I have always been terrified of preparing steak--if you mess up, what an expensive mistake! But you guys make me feel brave enough to light a match and send caution up in smoke. LOVE THIS EPISODE. But was hoping to see a cameo from Hopper...:)

It's true, Rebecca: isn't he the cutest? I think we're definitely going to try to get back in the once-a-week swing so we can satisfy your POP fix! I, for one, wish we could post several times a week! Only in a dream world...for now, anyway. :)

Hoorah for those permalinks-- I sent this episode to my dad!

(Not that he wouldn't have loved the Make-Your-Own-Yoga-Mat episode....)

Ha, that Bambi cut made me holler. I think you guys need a big, Argentine-style grill so you can spread out all that handsome-looking meat. Mmmm.

i've never commented before, but you and sebastian are so cute! great video, keep them coming!

i started reading your blog about a month ago when i was looking at all the videos on janetv...just wanted to let you know that i love your site and how it is such a great mix between your personal insights into life and instructions on how to enhance or create the small things that make life much more fun and personal!

also, sebastian + you = ubercute and the bambi cut made me laugh hysterically.

Thanks, Rachel! I'm so glad you like it so much!
